Can I shop around for a network service?

The network service cannot be put out to tender, but is always purchased from a local network company.

Electrical power network activity is a natural monopoly regulated by the Electricity Market Act, as the construction of competing electrical power networks is not economically viable. The network authorisation of the operator of the regional electricity network includes a geographical area of responsibility where the operator has the exclusive right to build a distribution network and to be responsible for the transmission of electricity to customers in that area. The Energy Authority monitors the reasonableness of network service prices.
