Oulun Energia will carry out renovation work on the concrete structures of the water channels of one machine at the Merikoski power plant between April and December 2025.

The work will start on Monday, 7th April 2025, and will be carried out indoors at the plant. The renovation will not cause any inconvenience outside the plant area, but depending on the weather and water conditions, more bypass flows may need to be made into the Merikoski flood channel, than usual.

At the beginning of week 15, research on the repair methods of the concrete structures of the lamella dam at the Merikoski power plant will also begin. The work will be carried out on weekdays between 07:00 and 21:00 until October 2025. The research may cause noise disturbance to the residents of Toivoniemi.

Both works are part of the long-term maintenance plan of the Merikoski power plant, which ensures the reliability and safe operation of the plant now and in the future. The concrete structures of the plant are approximately 75–80 years old and are being renovated in phases based on condition surveys. The work started a few years ago with the renovation of the concrete structures of the dam bridge and then the supporting walls of the lower channel.
