Changes to Oulun Energia Sähköverkko Oy’s network service fees and terms
Starting January 1, 2025, our network service fees will increase. Also, our network service terms will be updated on December 1, 2024. Oulun Energia Sähköverkko Oy will inform its customers of these changes during week 40.
Network service fees increase starting January 1, 2025
Oulun Energia Sähköverkko Oy is increasing its network service fees (formerly distribution rate) starting January 1, 2025. On average, taxable network service fees will increase by 3.8%. Value added tax and electricity tax are billed in conjunction with the network service fee.
The network service payment covers costs of the electricity network company, of which up to 90% are fixed costs. One reason for the price hike is the increase in general costs of continuous maintenance and construction the electricity network requires. What’s more, electricity network transmission capacity is under severe development pressure with the progress of the green transition and the energy transformation.
The primary reasons for growing electricity consumption in Finland include the electrification of various industries and traffic, construction of data centres and proliferation of electricity-using technologies. As the demand grows, so does the production of renewable electricity, such as wind and solar power. Reinforcing the power grid and making new investments while improving security of supply are basic prerequisites for electrifying the society and developing a clean energy system.
Oulun Energia Sähköverkko has not increased its network service fees in almost seven years, since January 1, 2018. In 2021 and 2022, network service fees were decreased. Even after this increase, our network service fees remain below the national average.

New network service terms (VPE2024) enter into force on December 1, 2024
New network service terms (VPE2024), as recommended by Finnish Energy, enter into force on December 1, 2024 and replace the prior terms (VPE2019).
The grounds for changing the terms are legislative amendments, material changes to existing conditions, renewal of outdated agreement and pricing arrangements and implementing necessary measures to conserve energy.
In addition, there are some minor changes to agreement conditions that do not impact the material content of the contractual relationship.
A summary of the changes to network service terms and the entire terms are available at Oulu Energy’s website.
